The Garage is a multidisciplinary arts learning center located in Tel Aviv, which is transforming the lives of talented young artists living with severe mental and emotional health issues. The Garage enables this vulnerable population to rehabilitate themselves by studying the arts with professional artists and teachers. There is also a team of healthcare professionals onsite providing ongoing support.

There are four educational art tracks available for students:

  • Music

  • Fine art

  • Performance and Movement

  • Media, Communication, and Video

We are incredibly proud that more than fifty percent of students go on to study in the best music and art schools in Israel, including the Bezalel Academy of Art, Academy of Music, Shenkar School of Design, Rimon Music School, and more.  Others continue to work in art professions mentored by Garage graduates.

The Garage Community

The Garage serves mostly young adults aged 18 plus. The Garage is open to all, regardless of religion, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. Students are accepted according to their artistic abilities. Students come from all over the country and are welcome and valued for who they are. One hundred and fifty students are registered with the Garage for the year program, evening classes, and the graduate program.

The Garage Programs

  • The year program is structured to prepare and enable students to enter Higher Education or work. Students create a portfolio and grow in confidence through support provided by the Garage staff.

  • The graduate program enables graduates from The Garage to continue their journey of stability in the workplace or Higher Education with the support of a Garage mentor.

  • The evening class program provides an opportunity for young adults with mental health issues to grow slowly in confidence, develop their artistic skills, and become part of the community. The evening classes serve as a preparatory experience for the year program and are appropriate for people without the capacity to commit to an intense learning schedule.

“No matter where I am, I accept myself and that is something that I didn’t have before. If the Garage wasn’t around, I don’t know where I’d be right now.”  Alon

Alon suffered from serious mental health issues causing him to be hospitalized. He was referred by medical professionals to the Garage to help him to rehabilitate. Today, having graduated from The Garage, Alon continues on a path of stability and remains out of the hospital. He has earned a BA in Sound Engineering and works as a sound technician and is furthering his education in Engineering and Electronics. His journey of regaining self-worth and independence is representative of hundreds of Garage graduates.
